Get to know more about Laurita and his clinical approach in these 7 quick questions.

1. What has most inspired and shaped your approach to patient care?

The thing that inspired my approach to patient care the most was my formative experiences with my uncle, who was a small town vet. I always thought what he did was so cool because he would operate on animals, he would see animals in clinic, and he would make people feel better about whatever they came in for. I thought it was really nice that he was having this concrete, positive effect on the people around him.

2. How do you build a strong relationship with your patients?

I don't want to rush people through. I want people to feel heard and to come to trust me. That trust isn't just given. It should be earned by me.

3. What's your favorite part of your job?

It's really gratifying to be able to see people get better quickly. Within a couple of weeks of surgery, they're feeling better. I love seeing a patient who has lived with severe arthritis pain for decades suddenly realize the pain is gone. And I've had patients who get back to skydiving and crazy stuff like that.

4. What’s your biggest fear as a patient?

I hope the doctor is going to take the time to earn my trust, answer my questions, and always do the best job they can possibly do for me or for my kids if I'm in the pediatrician's office.

5. What do you do for stress relief?

I love to sit down with friends at a table, turn off all the screens, and play a good board game.

6. Dogs or cats?

I have a dog and a cat, but I would say I'm a cat person because the cat is a little moody, but he just wants to basically sit on my lap and snuggle and do nothing, and that works for me.

7. Best advice you've ever heard?

Treat other people the way you want to be treated. The golden rule. I've been teaching that to my 4-year-old daughter.
