Bio & Overview
Richard Bidwell, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon whose specialties include spinal deformity, minimally invasive surgery, and adult degenerative spine disease.
Dr. Bidwell grew up in West Palm Beach, FL. He moved away to study biomedical engineering at the University of South Carolina, where he also received his medical degree. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Prisma Health/USC in Columbia, SC, where he was chief resident in his fifth year.
He met his wife at USC, and they now have two children.
“With my engineering background I usually have a very problem-based method to diagnosing and treating conditions,” he says. “That being said, I think one of the key factors in being a successful diagnostician is the ability to listen and communicate. I try to make sure that my patients and I can communicate and work as a team to promote shared decision making.”
