Bio & Overview
Max Meneveau, MD, MS, is a surgical oncologist who treats breast cancer with breast-conserving surgeries such as lumpectomy and oncoplastic techniques. He also performs mastectomies, including skin-sparing and nipple-sparing procedures, and performs sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary lymph node dissection, and surgery for benign and high-risk breast conditions.
His research focuses on making breast cancer treatment more personalized and creating tools that help identify which patients are most likely to benefit from certain treatments.
“I believe that every patient is unique, with individual priorities, concerns, and goals,” he says. “Building strong personal relationships is at the heart of how I practice, as I want each patient to feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout their care.”
Dr. Meneveau was raised in Baltimore by parents originally from Chile. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia, where he also completed his internship and general surgery residency. During his time at the University of Virginia, he also pursued a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship and earned a master’s degree in clinical research. He then completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
An avid fly fisherman and experienced guide since his youth, he also enjoys spending his free time exploring cuisine and cooking for family and friends.
“I chose to become a doctor because I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people through some of their most difficult and vulnerable moments,” he says. “In caring for patients with cancer, I am continually reminded that medicine is not only about treating disease, but also about listening, guiding, and supporting patients and their families through uncertainty and fear.”
