Bio & Overview
Jonathan Curley, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist and critical care specialist at UVA Health. Before becoming a doctor, Curley worked a wide variety of jobs, including restaurant work, plumbing, construction, emergency medical technician (EMT), paramedic, enlisted military, and high school teacher. He feels that these wide-ranging experiences have helped him clinically, as an educator, and with bedside manner.
Dr. Curley grew up in southern California and attended college at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After graduating with a bachelor’s in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics, Dr. Curley joined the military and spent six years as a pararescue specialist in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. It’s through his work as a pararescue specialist that Dr. Curley decided to pursue medicine as a career. During this time, Dr. Curley lived in Texas, attending medical school and doing his residency.
Dr. Curley has special training in bedside ultrasonography and echocardiography, which he often performs in his practice. Additionally, he spends a significant amount of time teaching these skills to residents and fellows at UVA.
