We asked Sachs our 7 quick questions.
1. What has most inspired and shaped your approach to patient care?
I've been very lucky to train with some fantastic surgeons and physicians throughout my career. During my fellowship, one thing that really inspired me was watching my mentors take extra time to communicate with their patients and make sure they felt like equal partners in their care. That surgeon-patient relationship is incredibly special, and it's something I've tried to carry into my own practice. I do my best to treat every patient the way I would treat a member of my own family.
2. What's your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing a patient do well. Whether it's helping someone through an immediate need or reaching a long-time goal, watching those successes unfold is incredibly rewarding. It's one of the most fulfilling parts of being a surgeon.
3. What's your biggest fear when you're a patient?
My biggest fear as a patient would be the fear of the unknown. That's one of the reasons I go the extra mile to help people understand what to expect and the rationale behind any recommended surgical procedure. I want my patients to feel informed and confident in their care every step of the way.
4. What do you do for stress relief?
I love spending an hour or two playing guitar after the kids go to sleep. It's a great way to enjoy a little me time. But spending quality time with family and friends, plus enjoying a nice cold drink while watching football, also does the trick!

6. What's the last movie you saw? Thumbs up or down?
I last watched Monsters University with my twin boys. I'd have to say thumbs up, mostly because it was so much fun seeing how much they enjoyed it!
7. What's the best advice you've ever heard?
You can't always control the curveballs life throws at you, but you can control how you react and make the best of any situation moving forward.
