1. What has most inspired and shaped your approach to patient care?
My dad was a doctor. Seeing the way that a physician can impact a community and take care of a community was an early inspiration for me.
And then as I went through medical school and training, seeing how much my mentors cared about trying to fix a problem for a patient. Even if it was a really challenging problem, they would take it on and help someone who other people felt they couldn't help. They were really technical masters, but they also took care of the patient from a human perspective.
2. What's your favorite part of your job?
Honestly, lots of things. I love what I do. I love that my job involves thinking through a problem and being creative. We learn a tool, a knowledge base, and a skill set, and then we apply it in different ways to help different patients because every patient's a little bit different.
3. What’s your biggest fear as a patient?
Being able to just let go and put your trust in someone else can be kind of scary.
4. What do you do for stress relief?
I have three girls, and I like to cook a family meal for them on Sundays and try to refine family recipes so I can pass them down to them. I also love to listen to music, play piano, and go for walks and hikes.
5. Are you a dog or cat person?
Neither. I'm a human person.
6. Last movie you watched?
With three young kids, I don't get to watch a lot of movies. I can watch a show every once in a while. Platonic on Apple is hilarious. It's heartfelt and has good music.
7. Best advice you've ever heard?
I've gotten a lot of great advice throughout my life. One that sticks in my head is the voice of my dad when I was a teenager — and it was just to be honest.
