1. What has most inspired and shaped your approach to patient care?

As I grow older in this profession, it’s being able to have long-term relationships with patients with chronic disease and hearing what worked well for them and what scared them. It helps me cater how I talk to people right from the beginning.

2. What's your favorite part of your job?

Oh, there are so many favorite parts to my job. I love to operate. I joke around about it, but if I could be in an operating room 24/7, I would. I like the adrenaline, the fixing of the problems, the camaraderie with the OR staff. It just runs so smoothly.

3. What’s your biggest fear as a patient?

That’s a hard question. I think the biggest fear when I go to the doctor is whether they will listen to what I'm trying to explain or make a snap judgment based on either looking at me or my history in the chart before I have the time to explain what I personally feel.

4. What do you do for stress relief?

It depends how good my 47-year-old knees feel. I like to do anything outside. I love to run. I like to hike. My daughter is very into lacrosse, so it's much fun to go out and throw the ball. She's old enough to catch fastballs so we can really play around and play tough.

5. Dogs or cats?

This is a debate in my house. I have two dogs and two cats. I joke that I hate my cats, which is not really a true statement. My cats are very lovely cats. We have two new puppies, which I absolutely love, but they're still chewing and doing things the puppies do. Overall, I'm going with a dog person, but we have a smorgasbord in my house.

6. Last movie you watched? Thumbs up or down?

The Devil Wears Prada with my kids, and it's a classic, so thumbs-up.

7. Best advice you've ever heard?

The best advice that I never truly implement but I wish I could is to try not to take things so personally.
