Highlights
Meet William Lombardi, DNP
My name is Bill Lombardi, I'm an acute care nurse practitioner at UVA Health working in the neuro ICU and neuro stepdown units. In those areas, we see patients who have just had a stroke, may have had a hemorrhage inside their brain. We also see cancers of the brain and of the spinal cord, as well as patients with seizure disorders or other autoimmune disorders that might affect their brain or spine. I started in neuro somewhat by accident. I knew that I had liked critical care. I had worked originally in ortho in nursing and knew that I wanted to get into an ICU environment. I enjoyed the challenge. I enjoyed the complexity of the patients and the ability and the time that it afforded you to really dig into each patient's case. When a new patient comes into the unit, they can expect that I'm going to try to take the time to get to know them. They often don't choose to see me, often people arrive in the ICU, and it's a very scary time for them. And I want to make sure that they feel safe, that they feel secure, that they feel that we are doing everything we can with this very large team to take care of them and provide the best care that we can for them. People should choose UVA for their care because we have the most talented healthcare professionals I've ever worked with in my career here. These people are so focused on the patient and the institution itself is focused on giving those providers the resources they need to take care of them. We keep the patients at the forefront of all that we do.
