Bio & Overview
As an infectious diseases specialist, Tarina C. Parpia, MD, MS, primarily cares for patients who have undergone solid organ transplants for stem cell transplants, as well as those with hematologic malignancies.
Dr. Parpia believes in the philosophy of cura personalis, a Latin phrase meaning "care of the whole person." With each patient, she gives attention to their unique needs, circumstances, and goals to develop a personalized treatment plan.
“The best care comes with being open-minded and understanding the bigger picture while providing individualized care to improve the overall well-being of each patient,” Dr. Parpia says.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Parpia earned her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. She earned a master’s degree in physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University and her medical degree at Georgetown’s School of Medicine. After completing her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Parpia completed her infectious diseases fellowship at UVA Health.
Dr. Parpia enjoys working in the field of infectious diseases because she can make a significant difference in her patients’ recovery and quality of life.
