Sean C Dougherty, MD

As an internal medicine doctor, Sean Dougherty, MD, takes a multi-faceted approach to working with his patients."I first try to get to know the patient and understand what is valuable to them. My patient's values remain at the forefront of whatever care I deliver and guide our relationship together. I always promise my patients that I will be upfront and honest with them and do everything that I can to help them feel their very best."

He adds,"Medicine is an incredible field that allows me to combine my passions for human interaction, community service, the scientific process, ethics, and diagnostic reasoning on a daily basis. The root of my decision to become a physician will always be the desire to better the lives of those around me."

Dr. Dougherty is a lifelong Virginian who grew up two hours north of Charlottesville in Centreville, VA. He shares,"I then headed down to Virginia Tech to complete my undergraduate studies (Go Hokies!) and spent a research year at the NIH afterwards."

He completed medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond before coming to UVA where he completed his internal medicine residency training.
