Bio & Overview

Rahul Mehta, MD, is a hospitalist and associate professor at UVA Health and UVA School of Medicine. His clinical interests revolve around perioperative medicine, particularly improving perioperative outcomes in high-risk patients and research on the impact of cardiovascular risk factors on post-operative complications after hip fracture surgery.

In the teaching realm, Rahul focuses on advancing clinical reasoning and promoting evidence-based care in the UME community. Aside from medicine, Rahul is passionate about fine arts (paper and mixed-media collage), hiking, and music.

He was born and grew up in Jabalpur, an idyllic town in central India, where he went to medical school and completed his residency training in internal medicine. His hometown's claim to fame is its close proximity to two of the biggest tiger reserves in the world.

He completed a second internal medicine residency at East Tennessee State University in 2009 and then practiced in rural Oregon for five years before joining UVA in 2014.
