Michael D Watson, MD

Michael Watson, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon. He treats people who have challenges in the lower part of their digestive system.

He treats many conditions, including:

• Colon and rectal cancer
• Diverticulitis (inflammation in the large intestine)
• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBS)
• Anorectal disorders (e.g., hemorrhoids)

He is also skilled in endoscopy (examination inside the body) and minimally invasive (small-incision) surgery.

Dr. Watson completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia. During medical school, he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

Then, he completed a general surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center (Atrium Health) in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was Chief Resident during the program. He also completed a cancer surgery and surgery education research fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center (Atrium Health).

Dr. Watson also completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
