Bio & Overview
Milad Memari, MD, MS, MSEd, completed his undergraduate studies at Boston College, graduating with a dual degree in political science (cum laude) and philosophy. He subsequently obtained his medical doctorate (MD) from Tulane University School of Medicine.
As a medical student, he was recognized with the American College of Physicians Award for Outstanding Student in Internal Medicine and was chosen by his peers for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his residency training at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. During this time, he was awarded the Resident/Fellow Teaching Competition Award at the 2019 Johns Hopkins University Education Retreat and was inducted into the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Society at Johns Hopkins University. In 2021, Memari was recognized as a National Young Scholar in General Internal Medicine by the Society of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Memari then completed the Academic Clinician-Educator Scholars fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, obtaining a Master of Science in Medical Education degree during the fellowship. His capstone project was recognized with poster presentation awards at the 2022 University of Pittsburgh Academy of Scholars Medical Education Day as well as the 2023 University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine Research Day.
Dr. Memari is passionate about evidence-based primary care practices, and minimizing harm to patients through unnecessary testing and treatments. He advocates for patient-centered approaches to patient care, and utilizing shared decision-making whenever possible. Dr. Memari is active in the academic setting, publishing works on best practices in ambulatory medicine as well as on educational methods that can help train the next generation of physicians. He is actively involved in training internal medicine residents as well as in the education of medical students at the University of Virginia. His educational work includes teaching medical students how to communicate effectively with patients, how to screen for structural barriers to care and how to utilize reasoning techniques to help make medical diagnoses.
In his free time, Dr. Memari enjoys hiking, playing soccer, and cycling in the Charlottesville area.
