Kenneth A Ballew, MD

Kenneth Ballew, MD, is a general internist practicing at the Fontaine Clinic. He is particularly interested in the long-term doctor patient relationships through all the stages of life.

Dr. Ballew was born in Tucson, Arizona, and grew up there and in northern California. After graduating from Graceland University, he earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa and stayed on there to complete his residency in internal medicine. He came to UVA in 1991, for a fellowship in general internal medicine with a research focus on the ethics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and DNR decision making. He earned a master’s degree in epidemiology during his fellowship, and then joined the UVA faculty. He is currently an associate professor of medicine and serves on the medical school admissions committee.

Dr. Ballew’s wife, Carole, is a nurse practitioner in cardiac transplant. Their daughter, Helen, is a student at Clemson University. In his spare time, Dr. Ballew enjoys reading, birding and running long distances in the hills around Charlottesville. He just completed his second Boston marathon.
