Bio & Overview

Kathleen Rea, DNP, RN, ACNS-BC, PCCN, CNL, is a clinical nurse specialist. She specializes in caring for gastroenterology patients who need colorectal surgery.

She began her career as a nursing assistant while pursuing an undergraduate nursing degree at UVA and its former Blue Ridge rehabilitation hospital. Once becoming a registered nurse, she joined the UVA surgical inpatient acute care unit. After returning to school for a Master of Science in Nursing, she became a nationally certified clinical nurse specialist in adult acute care. She brings a comprehensive knowledge set needed to care for adult patients with complex and unpredictable conditions.

“I love working with people. Nursing allows me to use science plus compassion to meet complex healthcare needs,” Kathleen says, adding, “I am deeply committed to the people who enter our hospital for help and expert care. It is a privilege to support them during their vulnerable time.”

Her clinical interests also include the prevention of healthcare-acquired infections and nursing education for undergraduate and graduate students.

Kathleen grew up in Whitehall, and is an alum of Charlottesville-area elementary and high schools and the University of Virginia. A fan of all things local and fun, she is an award-winning Albemarle County Fair Apple Pie baker, a regular at Northside Library, and enjoys hiking and playing in local parks and mountains.
