Bio & Overview

Katherine Verdi, MD, is an adult cardiac surgeon. She performs a full spectrum of heart surgeries, including coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement, aortic surgery, and heart transplant. She specializes in coronary revascularization and robotic coronary artery bypass.

Dr. Verdi was born in New York City and raised in northern New Jersey. She earned her undergraduate degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

She received her medical degree and completed her general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins University. While at Johns Hopkins, she also completed two dedicated research years working in a translational cardiac surgery laboratory studying neuroprotection in cardiac surgery.

It was during this time that she fell in love with cardiac surgery for “its complex pathophysiology, technical operations, and our ability to meaningfully impact a patient's life,” she says.

Dr. Verdi completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery and an advanced fellowship in coronary and minimally invasive surgery at Stanford University.

She is among a limited number of surgeons nationally who are applying minimally invasive and robotic techniques to cardiac procedures.

“When you can improve a patient’s outcome and speed up their recovery time so they can get back to their normal life—that’s what excites me about robotic cardiac procedures and makes me want to pioneer this field further.”

Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, skiing, and traveling with her husband and their two daughters.
