She graduated valedictorian from her nursing class and received a Good Catch Recognition Award from UVA Health. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Karen was born in the state of New York and raised in Latham, a suburb of Albany. She attended Colgate University and then received an associate’s degree in theology. She returned to school as an adult and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from UVA. She began her career with UVA in 2012 as an RN on the 3 East hospital unit.

Karen and her husband have two grown sons. She enjoys visiting family, friends, the ocean, and the LOVE signs throughout Virginia. She loves to run and work outside in her yard. The parents of a dog and two cats, she and her husband are active in their church and volunteer with various nonprofits.
