Jose Posas III, MD, is a neurologist who treats concussion, mild traumatic brain injury, migraines, and headaches.
His research interests include concussion, health literacy, and health equity.
Posas focuses on helping patients return to their normal lives by creating personalized treatment plans based on the latest research. His expertise includes ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to treat post-traumatic headaches.
“I have suffered from multiple concussions and have had migraines since I was in 6th grade,” he says. “I both sympathize and empathize with my patients. I am up front and honest with them about perhaps not being able to ‘cure’ their headaches, but I have made it my clinical practice to fight for their quality of life.”
Posas grew up in New Orleans and knew he wanted to be a doctor and follow in the footsteps of his father, mother, and maternal grandparents. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University and then rebelled a little by getting an art degree. He puts his anatomy knowledge gained during his art studies to use daily.
Posas completed his residency at the University of Miami, where he was chief resident, and his sports neurology fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
