Bio & Overview

Jessica Wunderlich, FNP, grew up in Virginia and was homeschooled alongside her twin sister and younger brother. Her mother always encouraged exploring, creativity, and finding the beauty in everything.

She attended Virginia Tech University and Radford University to complete her nursing and foreign language bachelor degrees. After years of nursing experience in labor and delivery, she completed her family nurse practitioner degree at the University of Virginia.

She spent her first years of practice at a local private-owned family practice clinic in Charlottesville. Its doors were open to those who are insured, uninsured, and homeless. After a solid foundation of family medicine, she moved on to fill various temporary positions in remote telemedicine services, a Spanish medical hotline, and correctional facilities. By joining UVA in 2021, she has a place to grow and be challenged clinically.

Jessica approaches her patients “without any preconceived ideas of who they are or the life they have lived,” she says. “I meet them as an equal and do my best to understand their stories. With listening, skilled assessment, and clinical knowledge, I can guide patients towards healthier lifestyles, therefore preventing poor health outcomes later in life and treating current complications.”

She became a nurse practitioner because she saw a void in healthcare that she could fill. “Healthcare should not be something that you get with wealth, insurance, and locality,” Jessica says. “I wanted to be able to be a provider for individuals and give holistic, thorough, and compassionate care. Also, I wanted to be a better resource for when I go on medical missions. Becoming a nurse practitioner opened up opportunities and allowed me to become more of an asset in the health field.”

Healthcare is a large part of her life, but not her only passion. “Traveling and nature shows us just how small we are in this beautiful world,” Jessica says. With soccer and hiking, she stays active and young at heart. She has a loving family that continues to grow at a small"homestead" in the heart of Charlottesville.

The nurse practitioner was very good to explain the steps being taken and asking me what I thought about them. She asked if the process was workable for me. She gave an option if the first was not do able for me. First time I have ever had such a kind and thoughtful professional who really took an interest to see if the plan outlined for me would be doable

The 15 years of, HRT, has turned back the aging clock. It cured my dry eyes. It gave me increased energy, it strengthen my bones, it gave me heathier skin and hair. After 3 years it restored my short term memory, and after 13 years it restored my heart function, to as good as it was at age 14, and I am 77
