Isabel E Burgess, PA

Isabel Burgess is a physician assistant who cares for cancer patients admitted to the hospital for stem cell transplant. She believes in taking a collaborative approach to patient care, working with the patient and the skilled team of cancer specialists at UVA to establish a custom and comprehensive treatment plan for each patient. “Today, medicine is a partnership,” she says.

Born in Venezuela and raised in Miami, Florida, Isabel received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, where she worked as a veterinary technician at the University of Florida Animal Hospital. “This made me realize that I loved medicine, but I did not want to work in the veterinary field,” she says. After shadowing many different providers within the University of Florida College of Medicine, Burgess decided that the field of oncology was the best fit for her.

She went on to pursue a master’s degree at South University in Savannah, Georgia. Burgess then returned to Florida to work as a physician assistant for a rural family medicine clinic for four years before joining UVA Health.

In her free time, Isabel enjoys being outdoors, hiking with her family, and caring for animals.
