Heather M Passerini, ACNP

Heather Passerini, ACNP, is an acute care nurse practitioner and advanced practice provider (APP) supervisor. Her primary clinical and research interests are metabolic and bariatric surgery along with obesity medicine.

"With bariatric surgery, every patient has their own path to follow," Heather says. "My primary goals as a nurse practitioner are to support patients on their path, giving them the opportunity to be heard and make decisions."

She adds, “I love what I do and want to ensure my patients and colleagues see the joy that it brings me. I always try to spend time with my patients, celebrate small moments, and support them during difficult times."

Heather grew up in a small town outside Tampa, Florida. As a travel nurse early in her career, she experienced many hospital systems throughout the Southeast. After spending nearly 15 years in critical care, she transitioned to outpatient and inpatient bariatric surgery in 2019.

She is passionate about ensuring access to bariatric care for all who seek it. Heather holds a bachelor of science from St. Petersburg College, a master of science and advanced practice degrees from Georgetown University, and a master of business administration from the University of Florida Warrington College of Business. She has been with UVA Health since 2012.
