Bio & Overview
Cara Stratton, CPNP-PC, is a nurse practitioner who provides preventive care and long-term management of chronic conditions for children.
Her research interests focus on the standardization of mental health screenings for adolescents with chronic illnesses. She is particularly interested in improving early identification and intervention for mental health concerns for these young people.
“I approach working with patients and their families with empathy, collaboration, and respect. I believe in creating a supportive environment where patients feel heard, valued, and involved in their care,” she says. “My goal is to meet families where they are, provide clear education, and work together to create a plan that fits their unique needs — especially when managing chronic conditions or navigating complex treatments.”
Stratton grew up in Chesapeake, where she spent much of her time enjoying frequent trips to the beach. She studied nursing at James Madison University, where she fell in love with the mountains and the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. She earned her master of science in nursing (MSN) from the University of North Carolina.
