Bio & Overview
Bridget Donovan, MD, is an obstetrician gynecologist, providing comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies complicated by medical conditions. Her research interests include Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy, placenta accreta spectrum, and the psychological impact of birth trauma.
“I am passionate about respecting the uniqueness of each of our own individual journeys and belief systems,” she says. “I promise I truly listen. I meet you where you are and want what is best for you.”
Dr. Donovan grew up in Scarsdale, New York, and was the youngest of five siblings. She majored in biochemistry with a minor in music at Washington and Lee University. After graduating, she worked for two years as a research assistant at Rockefeller University in New York, where she focused on hepatitis C.
She attended medical school at Harvard University and completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She also completed a maternal fetal medicine fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Donovan is fortunate to be a mom, which she says is the hardest and most important job out there. She also loves coffee and would like to run a dog rescue.

Highlights
Meet Bridget Donovan, MD
My name is Bridget Donovan, and I am a maternal fetal medicine specialist here at UVA Health. I am a maternal fetal medicine specialist, which means that I take care of moms and patients in their pregnancies when there are complications, either from mom standpoint, such as chronic issues or things that come up during the pregnancy, or from the fetal side if things are diagnosed prior to delivery. I am professionally passionate about meeting patients where they are, knowing that people come from all different walks of life, all different backgrounds, all different exposures, ideologies, belief systems. And I respect and honor all of those and want to make sure that as patients go through their pregnancy, they know that I'm not a one-size-fits-all provider. That I want to make sure that their concerns, their wishes, their preferences allows them to feel as seen, and heard and safe as possible. Growing up, my mom said that there are providers who have bedside manner and there are providers who have clinical expertise. And I think there are providers who have both, and they're rare. But I think one of the reasons to be seen at UVA Health is because it has many providers who offer both of those things.
