Highlights
I'm Allison May. I'm a urologic oncologist at UVA Health. So I'm a urologic oncologist. I see mostly patients with kidney cancer and prostate cancer. I do a lot of robotic surgeries, so robotic partial or radical nephrectomies, prostatectomies. But I also do a lot of open surgery for the, you know, really big and complex kidney tumors. I decided to go into medicine, I think at an early age. I really wanted to help people and take care of people. But I also, as I got more into it, became really attracted to the science side of medicine. We're trying to understand some of the most complex secrets of the world, how the body works, how cells work, and how we can interfere with them, and I think it's really incredible to be able to use science to improve patients' lives. When patients come to see me, they can expect to see a team of people that really care about them. So from the nurses, the front desk staff, the residents, the students, myself, we're all here because we really care about each individual patient as a whole, and we want to do everything we can to give them the best outcomes possible.
