UVA Health Prince William Medical Center recently received patient care kits and comfort items from Stohlman Subaru through the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative, a nationwide partnership with Blood Cancer United® (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). The annual initiative is designed to provide comfort, hope, and encouragement to individuals and families receiving treatment for blood cancer.
Representatives from Stohlman Subaru visited the cancer center to deliver 30 patient care kits filled with handwritten messages of hope, coloring books, colored pencils, and stress balls. They also donated 80 soft heart pillows that unzip into plush blankets, each accompanied by a personal message of encouragement for patients undergoing treatment. Subaru will have supported over 550,000 cancer patients by the end of this year through their donations.
"Every patient who walks through our doors deserves not only exceptional clinical care but also compassion and emotional support throughout their cancer journey," said Jessica Harasek, MSN, RN, RN-BC, Acute Care Nurse Manager of Inpatient Oncology and Outpatient Infusion at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center. "The generosity of Stohlman Subaru helps remind our patients that their community is thinking about them, cheering them on, and standing beside them every step of the way. These thoughtful gifts provide comfort that extends far beyond the treatment room, and we are sincerely grateful for their partnership."
"At Stohlman Subaru, we are committed to making a positive difference in the communities we serve," said Adam Portzel, Marketing Director of Stohlman Subaru. "Through the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative, we have the privilege of bringing small moments of comfort and encouragement to patients facing cancer. We hope these care kits and blankets help brighten their day and remind them that they are surrounded by people who care. We are honored to partner with Prince William Medical Center in supporting patients and families throughout their treatment journey."
According to Blood Cancer United®, a person in the United States is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma approximately every three minutes. For many patients, the physical and emotional challenges of treatment can feel overwhelming. Donations such as comfort kits, blankets, and heartfelt messages offer meaningful reminders that they are supported by a caring community.
Throughout June, more than 630 participating Subaru retailers across the country delivered blankets, patient care kits, and messages of hope to cancer patients at hospitals and cancer centers nationwide. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Subaru Loves to Care® partnership with Blood Cancer United®.
Through its continued support of the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative, Stohlman Subaru is helping bring compassion, comfort, and hope to patients and families receiving cancer care in Northern Virginia.
