U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals specialty rankings evaluate adult hospitals annually on how they provide 37 different types of care. The rankings of 14 medical specialties use a variety of quality measures to identify the hospitals that excel at handling the most complex and difficult cases. The ratings of 23 common procedures and conditions are based entirely on objective quality indicators, such as patient outcomes and nurse staffing levels. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals analyzed and 30,000 physicians surveyed, only 152 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties.
“These recognitions reflect the extraordinary commitment of our care teams to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care close to home,” said Ken Bernard, MD, MBA, FACEP, chief clinical officer of UVA Health Haymarket and Prince William Medical Centers. “Being recognized as a High Performing hospital in these categories demonstrates the specialized expertise, clinical excellence, and collaborative approach that defines care across UVA Health.
