UVA Health Expanding Lab Services
UVA Health is expanding its laboratory services in northern Albemarle County to serve more patients and meet the growing need for advanced testing.
Beginning in November 2027, UVA Health's West Complex laboratories and a small subset of laboratories now located on 11th Street in Charlottesville will move to a new and bigger location at the University of Virginia’s North Fork discovery park.
The following services will shift to North Fork:
- Toxicology
- Genomics
- Cytogenetics
- Immunology
- Flow cytometry
- Molecularinfectious disease testing
The move consolidates these services at Town Center 4 in North Fork and marks a significant step forward in how UVA Health invests in the future and meets patient needs. This expansion will prepare UVA Health to accommodate significant growth in testing volume, driven in part by the expansion of its cancer services and the continued growth of the health system in Northern Virginia.
“Our team is excited to better meet the needs of our patients and our care providers through this expansion,” said Jen DeArment, UVA Health’s Associate Chief for Medical Laboratories.
The North Fork site will also feature new equipment, expanded services and a first-of-its-kind dedicated student lab to support the future workforce of the Medical Laboratories.
Laboratory services that require the fastest turnaround times – which include chemistry, hematology, coagulation and microbiology – will remain at the 11th Street location near UVA Health University Medical Center.
