Bio & Overview
Yvonne Newberry is a family nurse practitioner with an active GYN and HRA/anal dysplasia clinical practice in the division of infectious diseases and international health. She sees patients at the Ryan White HIV clinic, where she provides gynecological outpatient care, including colposcopy for management of abnormal Pap smears for women living with HIV.
Additionally, she provides screening, evaluation, and management of anal dysplasia in men and women living with HIV. She was instrumental in developing the anal dysplasia/high-resolution anoscopy clinic in the Ryan White Infectious Diseases clinic in 2017.
In addition to helping patients, Newberry has taught at UVA, at both the School of Nursing and School of Medicine, for more than 30 years. She is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing. She works with graduate students in the Family and Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner programs, teaching health assessment, clinical skills in primary care, and women’s health care in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical arenas.
She has an interest in and active commitment to interprofessional education involving nurse practitioner and medical students. Additionally, she has been teaching health assessment to UVA dental residents for 20+ years.
