Bio & Overview

Sarah Pumphrey, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care at Augusta Pediatrics in Fishersville.

“I enjoy the full range of general pediatrics,” she says. “It is a privilege to be part of families’ lives from their child’s birth through early adulthood. I am especially interested in wellness and prevention as well as early childhood literacy.”

She adds, “I work to keep an open mind in all of my encounters, and I listen to parents as they know their children best. All children have unique strengths and challenges, and I value the opportunity to help families empower their children to be resilient, strong, and healthy.”

Pumphrey was born in Charlottesville and grew up in an old family home in Caroline County, Virginia. “I attended college at Brown University in Rhode Island and then, missing Virginia, returned to medical school at UVA,” she shares.

She completed her residency training at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Before coming home to Virginia, Dr. Pumphrey worked for a year in the emergency room at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. “Becoming a physician gave me the opportunity to help families during critical times in their lives, both positive and negative,” she says.

“I value the educational aspect of primary care. I cherish the long-term relationships I am able to form in primary care pediatrics and I love watching kids grow up and turn into their own unique selves.” She adds, “I have been at Augusta Pediatrics for my entire career, since finishing my training in 2008. I serve as co-lead physician at the practice. I also spend some time teaching resident physicians.”

Pumphrey lives in Fishersville with her husband and two children. “I love spending time with my family and cheering on my own kids at various activities and events. In my spare time, I enjoy being outside to hike, garden, and paddle board. I love to read.”

Dr. Pumphrey was very kind and thorough. We discussed our options and I took her professional opinion very seriously. She also called to check on my son to following day because she was concerned for how he was feeling the day before.

Her talking of treatment was great but looking at the after visit summary she wrote down things we could do but never mentioned to us directly.

I will definitely recommend her to others. She pointed out all the positives about our newborn, listened to and addressed our concerns. Contacted us outside of her working hours to give us more information about our child's jaundice and even gave both our kids books. It was definitely a great experience

We have been seeing the same doctor since my daughter was born and have always had an amazing experience. She always listens to our concerns and discusses all options that we have as well as any risks. If something doesn't make sense she goes over it so that we are comfortable. She is very thorough and is fast to suggest labs, further testing or referrals when necessary. I take both of my girls to see her and have recommended her countless times all over the community to all of my family and friends and even the moms on Facebook who make posts asking for recommendations. I cant say enough nice things about her or the practice in general. All of the staff are always amazing, every time!
