Meet Emergency Medicine Physician Richard Ferraro, MD
I'm Dr. Richard Ferraro. I oversee emergency department operations at UVA Health, Prince William, Haymarket, and Culpeper Medical Centers. In our emergency departments, we see all types of patients all day. Minor conditions like minor traumatic injuries, scrapes, bruises, broken bones, all the way to the most devastating conditions, including sepsis, stroke, heart attacks. One of the things that made me choose emergency medicine was that I couldn't narrow it down. There wasn't a specific patient population or a specific part of the body that interested me so much that I didn't want to see all the other things. That's the beauty of the emergency department and why I think a lot of people gravitate towards the emergency department is you see people on the worst day of their life and you can really make a difference in their lives on that day. I think patients should come to our UVA community health facilities because we're here to serve our communities. That's the focus and the patient is the focus of everything we do. Our emergency departments are top-notch facilities with top-notch doctors and nurses and we're here waiting to take care of your families. We've dedicated a lot of time in developing our teams to make sure that the care is quick, precise, and thorough. I think they're all wonderful facilities and it's a pleasure to work here.
