Bio & Overview

Dr. Royer is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UVA. Her particular area of interest is in cancer rehabilitation — treating cancer patients and survivors with physical impairments or disability related to cancer and/or its treatment. She serves patients both in the inpatient setting at HealthSouth Rehabilitation hospital and outpatient at UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Royer was born and raised in Manassas. She attended the University of Colorado, where she played Division I soccer and majored in kinesiology and integrative physiology. After college, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she earned a master’s in public health at George Washington University and spent several years at The National Cancer Institute. She worked in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, on projects primarily related to the development of second cancers and risk modification with exercise. She came to UVA for medical school and stayed for residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She joined the faculty in 2016.

Dr. Royer is married and the mother of two boys. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and friends, running and spending time outdoors.
