Bio & Overview
Micah Smith, AGACNP, is an acute care adult gerontology nurse practitioner in the thoracic cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU). He takes care of patients after they’ve had heart and thoracic surgeries.
“I have always appreciated the ability to interact with my patients and their families,” he says. “I approach them with compassion, understanding, and empathy. “As a nurse practitioner, I can more fully support them during difficult and vulnerable times.”
Micah was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. He attended the University of Virginia, where he studied psychology. He earned a nursing degree from Piedmont Virginia Community College and received his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis. While working as an RN at UVA Health, Micah earned his master’s degree in nursing from the university. He chose to be a nurse practitioner so he could deepen his knowledge and skills and better serve his patients.
