Ian T. Greenwalt, MD, is a breast surgeon. He treats patients who have breast cancer or have a high risk of breast cancer. He uses minimally invasive surgery and advanced oncoplastic skills (the combination of breast cancer surgery and plastic surgery) to provide high-quality care.

Dr. Greenwalt earned his undergraduate degree at Boston College. He earned his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his general surgery residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University. Then, he completed a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Medstar Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Greenwalt takes a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to treatment.

"I strongly believe in the importance of helping patients understand their disease process so that they can make thoughtful, informed decisions about their care,” he says.

Dr. Greenwalt is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Greenwalt also conducts research. He has published papers and book chapters on many subjects, including:
