Gina D Engel, MD

Gina Engel, MD, is a UVA Health primary care physician who cares for the healthcare needs of people of all ages.

“Primary care is a joy for me as I strive to know my patients as individuals and provide care that is evidence-based and also make decisions on conditions that may not be covered with extensive research,” she says. “I enjoy discussing preventive care and answering questions. I want each person to feel that even in a short visit I try to listen and really be there for them as they go through an illness or normal life transitions.”

Engel earned her medical degree and completed her residency at Virginia Commonwealth University. She earned her MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and earned the certified physician executive credential from the American Association of Physician Leaders.

She sees patients part-time and spends time at the medical center helping with the administration of other ambulatory practices.

She enjoys spending time with her three children and husband. In her free time, she runs 10-mile and half-marathon races. She also enjoys hiking whenever possible and cooking healthy meals using local produce.
