Highlights
Meet Internal Medicine Physician Dacre Knight
My name is Dacre Knight. I'm the medical director of the EDS and Hypermobility Disorder Center at UVA Health. The types of patients we see with EDS can be quite broad and it does usually pertain to some of the common associated conditions of EDS, which would be chronic pain or fatigue, brain fog, things like that. New patients can expect when they see me, first and foremost to be seen and heard and to understand all of the background in the medical history that they come with. And then ultimately taking that into a physical exam and coming up with a practical plan to help them going forward and to help their quality of life. The most impactful experiences has been the interaction I've had with my own patients. Their stories about the adversity that they faced in trying to seek care and seeking the right diagnosis and it's really motivated me to find out how do we create better systems and models of care to serve these patients at a broader level. UVA Health really sets itself apart by having a strong multidisciplinary program all in one academic setting. So not only a powerhouse team of providers but also world-class experts in the different areas of research and education that we can really move the science and clinical care forward for patients who are often misunderstood.
