Bio & Overview
Brian Kogon, MD, is a congenital heart surgeon at UVA Health Children's and the chief of congenital heart surgery at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. In his practice, he performs the full spectrum of CHD surgery. Dr. Kogon performs surgeries to close holes in the heart, to repair and replace heart valves, and also does outside-the-box surgeries as needed to deliver results to his patients. He’s performed countless surgeries, including complex operations like Norwood procedures and heart transplants. From the highly complex to the routine, Dr. Kogon takes pride in his team approach to surgery.
But Dr. Kogon’s favorite part of his job is coming into the waiting room after surgery to let a family know their baby will be just fine. He continues to see these families and gets to watch their children grow into healthy adults. Congenital heart defect care now goes through adulthood, as more children with serious heart problems recover and grow.
Outside of work, Dr. Kogon is happily married with 3 children. An avid tennis player, Dr. Kogon also enjoys swimming and cycling. He and his family enjoy spending time together, trying new restaurants, and talking about their many hobbies and passions.
