Highlights
Meet Psychiatrist Ann Radford, DO
Hi, I'm Dr. Ann Radford. I'm a staff psychiatrist at UVA Health. So generally we treat mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, as well as drug and alcohol disorders. I chose psychiatry, one, because I really enjoy people, I really enjoy people's biography. But the primary reason was in 2001, when I graduated pharmacy school, I did my intern year at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and that's when 9-11 hit. And after that, there was just a demand for psychiatry in the military and civilian-wise overall. I'm professionally passionate about making sure that the psychiatric patient get their medical needs met, which can often be overlooked when they're presenting with a psychiatric symptom. So advocating for the mental health patient, collaborating with the other specialties. I recommend UVA Health for patient care because of the culture of safety at UVA. It's not difficult to consult internal medicine or to consult a neurologist or to order any type of imaging like a CT or MRI. And that's really not common in other inpatient psychiatric settings. So the culture of safety plus the teamwork. That's why I would recommend UVA.
