Allen Cole Burks, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician. His clinical interests include:

“I try to find a common understanding with all patients and their families because establishing a relationship will help them maximize their health,” he says. “Their experience and health are my utmost priority as a physician.”
Dr. Burks grew up in the Ozark mountains in rural Arkansas and attended the University of Central Arkansas with plans to become a marine biologist. His love of human medicine began with his first anatomy course.
He earned his medical degree at Saint Louis University, where he also completed his family medicine residency. He completed his internal medicine residency at Georgetown University and then completed fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine and interventional pulmonology at Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University, in St. Louis.
He is a peer reviewer for several journals, including the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, Clinical Pulmonary Medicine, and CHEST, the Journal of the American College of Chest Physicians.
“My overarching calling to medicine was that of an educated communicator and translator. I wanted to be able to help people through the most difficult times of their physical lives by not only having in-depth knowledge but also how to explain those things in easy-to-understand terms,” he says.
