Impact of obesity on microvascular insulin action and cardiorespiratory fitness in Type 1 Diabetes (ZQL010)

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, seeks adults ages 21-50 with (type 1 diabetes or healthy normal weight or healthy overweight for a research study. The purpose of the study is see how exercise training affects heart and blood vessels of adults with type 1 diabetes compared to those who are normal weight and overweight but otherwise healthy. You may be eligible for this study if: you are non-smoking, inactive, and have type 1 diabetes, or are normal weight or overweight but otherwise healthy. Study involves Exercise training over 5 months to include 5 visits at UVA with a personal trainer. 3 outpatient visits ( 1-2 hours) and 2 outpatient admissions ( 8 hours). Outpatient visits involve blood draws, optional muscle biopsy, ultrasound measurements, and insulin infusion. All study visits are during the week.. Study related exercise training and all study tests and procedures are provided at no cost. Compensation is provided and will be paid in installments.
