Clinical Trials | Psilocybin and Prolonged Grief Disorder: UVA Study Looking for Adults Ages 18–65

Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy for Prolonged Grief

The Division of Perceptual Studies is looking for adults ages 18–65 who are dealing with Prolonged Grief Disorder (also called Complicated Grief) to take part in a research study. The purpose of the study is to learn how a treatment using psilocybin (a substance found in certain mushrooms) combined with therapy might help people who are having a hard time moving forward after a loss. You may be able to join the study if: • Your loss happened at least one year ago. • You still feel deep sadness that makes daily life hard. • You are not taking certain mental health medications. • You are in good physical health and can have an MRI scan. What the study involves: • Total of 7 in-person visits over 3-4 months • Supportive preparation and integration meetings with trained study staff (2-6 hours each visit) • One dose of psilocybin in a supervised setting. (8- 10 hour visit) • Questionnaires • Two MRI brain scans. (about 1.5 hour each scan) • Three follow-up visits at 1, 3, and 6 months after your last in-person visit. These can be done from home or in person, and each one takes about 1–2 hours. Study-related exams, tests, and treatment are provided at no cost. Interested?
