Clinical Trials | Research Study for Adults with a Recent Tick Bite

The Carter Immunology Center seeks adults ages 18 and older who have been bitten by a tick within the past 14 days for a research study. The purpose of this study is to learn how the body responds to tick bites and whether these responses may be connected to heart disease and red meat allergy (alpha-gal syndrome). You may be eligible for this study if: • Are 18 years of age or older • Have been bitten by a tick within the past 14 days • Are able to attend a study visit soon after your tick bite • Are willing to participate in research procedures and complete study questionnaires Study participation involves: a health questionnaire, blood draws, a skin examination, and up to two small skin biopsies during the first visit. Participants will complete 2 visits over approximately 1 month or may choose to complete 4 visits over approximately 1 year. A follow-up phone call will also occur after the first visit. Study-related skin examinations and research tests are provided at no cost. Compensation is available for completed study visits. Participation is voluntary.
